An internal processing error has seen Council duplicate its weekly direct debits for some people and Council will refund this error to those affected today.
Council CEO Steven May apologised for the error and said that staff identified the issue quickly and have moved to rectify the situation so that refunds can be issued as quickly as possible.
“Council processes its direct debits twice a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday, and what we can tell is that some people who had their direct debits processed on Tuesday were direct debited the same amount again on Thursday.”
“We’re working to ensure that this doesn’t happen again, and I want to offer an apology to those affected, and I want to assure those people affected that refunds will be issued this afternoon.”
