Free grant to warm up Wairoa homes

Warmer Kiwi Homes

Warming up Wairoa homes will be a hot topic at an upcoming Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority meeting in town.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) is the government agency that works to improve the energy efficiency of New Zealand homes and businesses and encourages the uptake of renewable energy.

The authority is promoting Warmer Kiwi Homes where homeowners could receive a grant that covers 67 percent of ceiling and underfloor insulation and 67 percent towards the cost of a heat pump or wood burner.

The eligibility criteria is for owner occupied homes (not a rental) and is for Community Services Card holders or people who live in a low-income area – deprivation area 8, 9, or 10 (Statistics NZ) or who qualify for the Healthy Homes Initiative (referred from the DHB).

Warmer Kiwi Homes Funding and Leads Manager Raewynne Jacobs will make a presentation on the initiative to Council on Tuesday September 3 and to the Maori Standing Committee meeting on September 12 at Te Rakato Marae, Mahia.

A public meeting will also be held at the War Memorial Hall an 6pm on Wednesday September 11.

Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said Warmer Kiwi Homes is a great way to ensure your home is warm and dry at a minimal cost.

“While the criteria is for community service card holders the fund can be accessible for people without community services cards.

“I encourage everyone who thinks they may be eligible to check out the site www.energywise.govt.nz, and attend the September 11 meeting for more information.”
