Gaiety movie closure continues

gaiety theatre web

Unfortunately, a technical glitch at the Gaiety Theatre is proving to be more difficult to fix than originally thought.

Issues with movie equipment caused the theatre to close earlier in the month. A replacement part was located and sent from Melbourne, Australia, but unfortunately has not fixed the problem.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said Wairoa has been fortunate to have the services of the Hoyts Cinema team with a specialised technician now looking at options for the movie screening equipment.

“We flagged last year that the Gaiety equipment is ageing and has done a lot of work. We do now know what the issue is and are waiting for a report on the best way to move forward.

In the meantime, the Gaiety will remain closed.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this breakdown has created and thank movie goers for their patience.

“We all want the Gaiety back up and running as soon as possible.”
