Matariki is a time to come together to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate the present, and look ahead to the year to come. We’re marking the occasion with an evening of performance, kai, storytelling and shared moments with whānau and friends.
MTG Hawke’s Bay will be open late. Come explore the galleries, hunt for hidden stars throughout the museum, and get hands-on with a star-making activity. The new MTG exhibition 'Shockwave: Hawke's Bay's Great Quake, 1931' is open, so step inside our new shake house to see what an earthquake feels like, without the risk.
Outside, enjoy a line-up of incredible talent including:
- Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Ara Hou
- Te Ūranga Waka – EIT Māori Studies
- Teine mai le Mauga
- Te Aupikitanga ki Tai, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa
- Justin and Manaia Warena
- Ollie Burns
Fiery performances from Fire and Flow will lead the way, and Pereri King sharing stories that bring the meaning of Matariki to life.
This is a free, whānau-friendly event and one of the best nights on the winter calendar. So, wrap up warm, bring your whānau, and spend the evening with us under the Matariki stars.
Nau mai, haere mai, all are welcome!
