School of public administration, university of applied sciences, Ludwigsburg, Germany signs memorandum of understanding with Wairoa District Council.
German Government to pay Wairoa district research interns on full salary while undertaking community internships in Wairoa district, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
The CEO of Wairoa District Council , Fergus Power, has announced today that negotiations have successfully concluded with the School of Public Administration, University of Applied Sciences, Ludwigsburg, Germany, which has entered into a formal relationship with Wairoa District Council. The Memorandum of Understanding establishing the formal relationship was signed this week by Mr Power and the University’s Vice Rector for International Affairs Mrs. Prof. Dr. Gabi Meissner.
This gives Wairoa district access to advanced public administration and finance students and graduates from Germany. These interns will be paid full salary by the German Government while on their three month internships with Wairoa District Council.
The inaugural intern, Johannes Klohn, is also passionate about rural firefighting. As the district has a shortage of rural firefighting volunteers, Johannes will be inducted by Wairoa District Council as a rural firefighter, and fulfil a very useful dual role while with the community of Wairoa district for the months of November, December and January.
Mr Power said “I have set an objective of establishing the Wairoa district as being recognised as ‘a new Mecca for bright young minds’ -] and we are well on the way to achieving this, both within New Zealand and internationally. University students from Wairoa will also benefit from increased opportunity to undertake Summer School, internship or Work Integrated Learning Programmes here.”
“Wairoa is becoming recognised as an increasingly exciting site for the incubation of bright ideas, and we welcome Germany to the whanau”, he said
