Freedom Camping in the Wairoa district is being reviewed by the Wairoa District Council.
Consultation is now open, and submissions close at the end of the month, August 30 4.30pm.
Under legislation Council must use the special consultative procedure to review the Wairoa District Council Consolidated Bylaw Part 9 – Freedom Camping.
Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said it is really important that our local community submit on the proposed Freedom Camping By-law.
“We know that many people in our community have an opinion on Freedom Camping in our district.
“This proposal has taken into consideration a lot of feedback over the last couple of years, and whether you support, or are opposed to the proposed changes, it is important that you make a submission.
The proposed amendments include changes to prohibited and restricted sites, reducing the maximum night’s stay from three to two nights, updating the wording to reflect recent treaty settlement acts, and adding more information on private land parcels.
“We want to hear whether our community wants these changes and whether people believe Council should adopt these proposed amendments to the bylaw.
