Transport Asset Manager shortlisted for national award

Libby Young

Wairoa District Council Transport Asset Manager Libby Young has been shortlisted for a top national award.

Ms Young was nominated for the New Zealand Society of Local Government Managers (SOLGM) 2019 Brookfields Emerging Leader of the Year Award.

Last week Ms Young was advised she had been shortlisted for the prestigious award which will see the winner announced at next month’s SOLGM gala dinner in Auckland.

The award criteria is for people aged 35 and under with a proven track record of designing or delivering programmes, projects, processes or practices that demonstrate innovative and successful approaches with an identifiable community impact.

It is offered as an important aspect of SOLGM’s strategy to support increased leadership capability in the sector.

The Award is part of SOLGM’s Local Government Leadership Pathway’s initiative which includes a range of programmes and activities that provide staff across the sector with outstanding leadership development opportunities.

Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said Libby’s nomination and the fact she was shortlisted for a national award is an excellent example of Council supporting talented staff.

“We are proud to have staff who are in a position to be nominated and then short-listed. It shows Wairoa can foot it at a national level and I wish Libby all the best.”
