Santa Claus is coming to town

2022 Xmas Parade low res 63 for web

‘Everyone Santa’ is the theme for this year’s Wairoa Christmas Parade.

Scheduled for Saturday, December 9, the parade is a fun-filled fixture on the Wairoa calendar, with organisers hoping for lots of involvement this year.

The ‘Everyone Santa’ theme will allow everyone to demonstrate the spirit of Christmas by wearing their local versions of Santa and Mrs Claus costumes.  The theme is a chance to celebrate Christmas with lots of sparkling lights, decorations and other yuletide trimmings. The possibilities are endless, from Santa sleighs and giant Christmas gifts to Santa’s workshop and oversized ornaments.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the key to a successful parade is participation, and he hopes there will be a great representation from businesses, schools and organisations. “Cyclone Gabrielle has caused a lot of hurt, and it has been a challenging year for Wairoa. While we are still very much in the rebuild stage, the parade is an excellent opportunity to have some fun and especially for our children to be involved in a happy and festive local event.”

A special shout out to our sponsors for helping make this event possible, thank you to Wairoa Taiwhenua, Wairoa New World, Kahungunu Executive ADARA, Wairoa Tennis Club and QRS.

For those who enter floats, there are plenty of prizes up for grabs with categories for best commercial, education provider and community organisation, as well as best costume age group prizes for boys and girls.

Registrations close on Friday, December 8. Email rubyanne@wairoadc.govt.nz for your registration form or collect it from the Wairoa i-Site office.
