NZIFF: Lesbian Space Princess

NZIFF: Lesbian Space Princess

Set in a gay-laxy far, far away this crowd pleasing and proudly queer Aussie adult animation delights with its vivid, candy-coloured palette, kinky sense of humour and catchy, upbeat musical numbers.

Dumped on her 23rd birthday for being too clingy, anxious and introverted Princess Saira (Shabana Azeez) may yet again endure the humiliation of standing in the Singles Zone at the annual Lesbian Ball. The young space princess has led a sheltered life and even holds the title of Most Boring Royal in the History of Clitopolis, where she lives with her glamorous Queen mums. But when a trio of Straight White Maliens kidnaps her ex- Kiki (Bernie Van Tiel), Saira must leave the safety of gay space to rescue her by bringing the Maliens the most powerful weapon known to lesbian kind, the Royal Labrys. However, there is a slight problem… she doesn’t have it.

Traveling in a bigoted spaceship from the 21st century, Saira must overcome self-doubt and countless dangers, including sentient goo that feeds on bad vibes. Saira’s inter-gay-lactic quest is a laugh-out-loud, kinky adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Written and directed by Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese in their directorial debut, fans of Adventure Time and Steven Universe will be enamoured by Lesbian Space Princess’s vibrant animation and captivating characters in this touching tale advocating self-love. — Madison Marshall
