UPDATE 11.45AM
Council is asking residents in Wairoa township to please conserve water this afternoon while crews respond to a MAJOR water leak in town.
Contractors are currently working along Paul Street, to isolate the fault and repair work is underway on a sewer line and water main.
The repair is expected to take around five to six hours.
Water supply will be switched off and this outage is likely to affect most properties on the south side of the Wairoa River.
Reservoirs are currently sitting at around 80% capacity at Tawhara and around 90% across other reservoirs.
As a precaution, we are asking the community to please limit water use where possible while this work is carried out.
Simple steps like avoiding outdoor water use, delaying washing, and using water carefully will help maintain supply while crews complete the repairs.
Council teams will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates if the situation changes.
Thank you for your patience and support while repairs are completed.
UPDATE 10.40am
The repair will take approx. 5 hours. The footpath from WYAT to New World is closed while the work is being carried out.
