Temporary Marine Parade closure

Road Closure Marine Parade infrastructure

A section of Marine Parade, near the Wairoa Bridge, will be closed for a few days next week to enable critical wastewater infrastructure work to be carried out.

The temporary closure will see Marine Parade closed at the roundabout to the entrance of the slipway, near Richies Café, from Tuesday 24 February through to Thursday morning, 26 February 2026.

A temporary cul-de-sac will be established outside Richies Café, allowing vehicles approaching from the Locke Street end of Marine Parade to turn around and exit safely. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your travel.

The wastewater infrastructure work involves the Paul Street pumping main, a critical component of Wairoa's wastewater network. It carries wastewater from North Clyde and Alexandra Park pump stations directly to the Wairoa wastewater ponds for treatment.

Without this pipeline, wastewater from a large portion of the town cannot reach the treatment ponds, making it a critical link in the system.

The main has been programmed for replacement for several years, but other projects and unexpected disruptions delayed the work.

Council is now moving forward to replace this critical pipeline to improve reliability and reduce the risk of future failures, helping to protect public health and the environment.

We appreciate that this work may cause some disruption, and thank you for your patience while we replace this essential pipeline.
