Participation invited for Māori Standing Committee

Council Meeting Banners4

Wairoa District Council is calling on whānau, marae and takiwā to step forward and nominate representatives for the Māori Standing Committee.

The Māori Standing Committee ensures Māori voices and aspirations inform Council decisions on issues affecting Māori and their communities.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little wants to empower the Māori Standing Committee to become an even more integral part of the Council and community.

“Our Council wants to reset our Māori Standing Committee by encouraging full representation and ensuring participation is a meaningful experience for the committee members,” Mayor Little says.

Takiwā are invited to put forward their representative by the new extended date of 20 February 2026, with the goal being to have all takiwā represented.

Mayor Little described the committee as an essential part of the Council organisation, saying current and past members have made significant contributions over time.

“I look forward to the Māori Standing Committee gaining fresh new momentum, including holding meetings at marae around the district.”

If you are interested in being a representative, please contact Wairoa District Council’s Governance Team at governance@wairoadc.govt.nz or call 06 838 7309 and ask for a Governance Team member.
