Panel Kōrero: Community, Kaitiakitanga & the Future of Our Wai

Nau mai, haere mai to an informal panel conversation accompanying the exhibition Currents Calling Home, bringing together leading voices in environmental practice, iwi advocacy, and community action to explore our shared relationship with wai and the responsibilities of kaitiakitanga.

Facilitated by Charles Ropitini, Pou Ahurea at Hastings District Council, the conversation features:

- Katarina Kawana of the Mānawatia te Wai research collective
- Ngaio Tiuka of Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated
- Te Kerehi Thompson of the Hastings District Council’s Waiaroha facility

Together they will reflect on how communities across Te Matau-a-Māui are responding to the challenges facing our waterways, and how mātauranga Māori, collaboration, and local leadership can guide meaningful restoration for wai and wellbeing.
