Wairoa is celebrating its first Tautoko buy local winner.

Derek Ormond, who shopped local at Hammer Hardware, is the first person to have his name drawn to win $100 in this round of the buy local and win campaign.

Week one of Tautoko Wairoa is off to a great start, with 300 entries in the draw and total spend of $26,520.12.

The Tautoko Wairoa - buy local and win campaign began on Monday October 11 and runs until Thursday November 11.

Everyone who spends $30 or more at participating local retail stores will be in for a chance to win $100 in local shopping vouchers.

Draws are held every week and there is no limit on the number of times you can enter.

Chair of the Economic Development committee Denise Eaglesome-Karekare drew the first winner and stressed the importance of shopping locally.

She said by supporting our local businesses, we are helping to keep our businesses strong so they can in turn provide the goods and services our community needs.

“Shopping and buying locally also keeps our local dollars in the community and that helps to support our local people.”

Around 25 local businesses are giving you a chance to win - just by shopping and buying locally.

Participating businesses are Angus Gemmell Hardware, Beauty Antix, Bloom ‘n loco, Books on Parade, Bradbury Jewellers, Dollar Heaven, Wairoa Pharmacy, Eastland Building and Farm Supplies, Ecko, Estway Sports, Goods 4 U, Hammer Hardware, Hair Here, Hind Furnishers, i-Site, JC Electronics, Local Living, Mojo, Petite Fleur, Purple Petals, Richies Hair Salon, Stihl Shop, Wairoa Appliance Centre, Wairoa Star, Wash with Sweets and Te Kapu Apiaries. Any other businesses that would like to join the campaign are welcome to contact the Council.

The promotion is part of the Wairoa District Council Tautoko Wairoa Buy Local Campaign to encourage people to shop and buy locally.
