Council welcomes Rocket Lab job opportunities

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little is thrilled with Rocket Lab’s announcement of growing their Mahia based team of staff to 30 by the end of the year.

“Rocket Lab is an innovative company that is on the cutting edge of technology.

“The Council could see the potential when we first started having conversations with Rocket Lab founder Peter Beck nearly four years ago.

“I have never had any doubt about the Rocket Lab abilities and this increase in staff shows how quickly they are expanding.

“I recall a lot of people knocking the Council and Rocket Lab when the partnership was first announced. However, as a Council we could always see the scope.

“We always knew, like a lot other similar initiatives that we have going on, that it was going to be about the long-term gain and about getting the foundation right so we can maximise the positive flow ons.

“It has been a long time since this district has seen the creation of this many extra jobs and we are thrilled with what that means for our community. Particularly with Rocket Lab wanting to hire local people when possible.

“This Council’s mission has always been to halt our declining population and to grow Wairoa’s economy. With an enabling Council, Rocket Lab and other ongoing initiatives, like the Provincial Growth Fund opportunities, I believe we are certainly doing that.”
