Essential bridge strengthening work on the Wairakaia Rail Bridge.

Crews will carry out dowel installation on the rail bridge.

For safety reasons, the road needs to be fully closed while this work takes place.

Where

SH2 will be closed between Nicks Head Station Road and Coop Road, Muriwai

When

Roadworkers are working at bridge worksite, including installing scaffolding on the sides of the bridge. Day works are underway 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Some temporary traffic management including short stop/go and temporary speed limits may sometimes be in place ahead of the night closures.

• Sunday 9 August, Monday 10 August, and Tuesday 11 August – 3 night closures from 8pm to 4am each night. The road will reopen at 4am on Wednesday 12 August.

If you’re travelling between Gisborne and Wairoa, or Gisborne and Napier, you will need to allow sufficient travel time to make it through the rail bridge before the closure starts.
