Growing Governance leadership

2022 03 28 QRS

Wairoa District Council is once again offering locals a chance to grow their governance capability and contribute to the future success of Wairoa through an internship on the QRS (Quality Roading Services) Wairoa Board.

Applications are invited from aspiring directors who wish to gain valuable governance experience by working alongside the QRS Board for a period of 12 months.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the first intern, Fulton Storey, has been a great success and with his term nearly complete, the hunt is on for the next person to fill the position.

“This is about growing leaders and developing an emerging group of future directors in Wairoa by providing an opportunity to work alongside an experienced board.”

Mayor Little described the internship as a unique opportunity with the role designed to provide practical, hands-on exposure to board governance and strategic decision-making. “It offers a rare opportunity to observe and participate in the governance of a successful Council-controlled organisation and gain first-hand insight into the responsibilities, challenges and rewards of board leadership.”
