Anthony Stretch

Anthony Stretch

Anthony Stretch is a rare voice, a truly original songwriter whose music blends folk, soul and rock’n’roll with cathartic abandon. Hailing from Hawke’s Bay, Stretch has carved out a place in Aotearoa for those who crave music with depth, heart, and authenticity.

To celebrate NZ Music Month at CAN, Stretch will be playing a selection of his own music plus some of the most timeless songs in the New Zealand songbook. Staged in the Main Gallery, Stretch will be playing amongst a never-before-seen exhibition of Hawke's Bay photographers work, capturing original local musicians and their audiences. This will be a perfect combination of live performance and an exhibition of striking imagery, capturing the creative act of music.

‘Raw beauty with a panoramic sweep, shimmering and glistening with bitter-sweetness’ 5/5 stars
- Music.Net.NZ

Stretch’s live performances are utterly unforgettable - intimate yet electrifying. He possesses an ability to moving between hushed intensity and explosive crescendos while holding audiences in awe. Having played to sold-out audiences across the country, headlined iconic venues like Church Road and the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, Stretch has also opened for renowned artists such as Neil Finn, Jeff Tweedy, Michael Bublé, Rod Stewart and Elton John at Mission Estate to over 20,000 people.

‘Stretch totally captivated, the voice beautiful and soulful. Immediately the place lit up, we finished on our feet, a crowd desperate for more’
- Bay Buzz
