Behind the scenes ANZAC Day work

anzac

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little has extended a big thank-you to all those who support the local ANZAC Day commemorations.

“There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes on to make Wairoa’s memorial services extra special. From all corners of our district, people step up and make individual and group contributions, and this work is acknowledged and recognised. Thank you to you all.

“Locally, we are fortunate to have a group of Wairoa floral artists and members of the Gisborne Floral Art Group who, this year, have made over a dozen wreaths for the local civic functions. Their work is voluntary and specialised, and uses the traditional laurel leaf, a symbol of courage, bravery and strength.

“I encourage as many people as possible to attend the local ANZAC Day services tomorrow, which include Civic Services at Kaiuku Marae from 5.45 am, Taihoa Marae Service from 8.30 am, Frasertown Civic Service from 10 am and Wairoa Civic Service at the War Memorial from 11.45 am. Services will also be held at Mohaka Marae from 5.45 am and Whakaki Marae from 11 am.”
