Freedom Camping Bylaw

Adoption of Wairoa District Council Consolidated Bylaw Part 9 - Freedom Camping

Reason for the Proposal

Under legislation Council must use the special consultative procedure to review the Wairoa District Council Consolidated Bylaw Part 9 – Freedom Camping. The proposed amendments include changes to prohibited and restricted sites under Schedules 1 & 2, reducing the maximum night’s stay to 2 nights, updating wording to reflect recent treaty settlement acts, and adding more information on private land parcels to Schedule 3.

Council is considering whether it should adopt amendments to the Wairoa District Council Consolidated Bylaw Part 9 – Freedom Camping. It considers that this is a matter for local communities to provide feedback, there is also a legislative requirement for the special consultative procedure to be used. Council is therefore seeking feedback from its communities on whether they believe Council should adopt these proposed amendments to the bylaw.
