Time is running out for dog registration discount

Cost of owning a dog

Dog owners have until the end of August to make the most of the dog registration discount.

Registrations open annually from July 1 to August 31, when dog owners can take advantage of the discounted price rather than paying penalties for late registrations after September 1.

The Wairoa District Council extends its thanks to all dog owners who have already registered their precious pooches.

Under the Dog Control Act 1996, it is a legal requirement to register all dogs by the time they reach three months of age, and the registration must be renewed annually.

If you have an owner file with the Council, you can register your dog and pay online quickly and easily. If not, call the Council and a file can be set up in just a few minutes. Now is also an excellent time to make sure your details are correct and up to date. Perhaps you got another dog during the year or are moving out of the district. Let the Council know of any changes so your owner file can be updated to ensure you’re paying the correct fees.

If you are still receiving your registrations by mail and would like to switch to email correspondence, please let us know.
