Earth & Fire: conversations in clay

Ceramics are grounded in everyday life. They are made from the earth, shaped by hand, and strengthened by fire. Earth & fire: conversations in clay highlights the ongoing dialogue between art and craft in Aotearoa/New Zealand, celebrating the dynamic interplay of creativity that continues to shape ceramics today.

The pieces on display here reflect both tradition and innovation—some are practical objects we might use at home; others are artworks that explore form, texture, and colour.

All objects in Earth & fire are from the Hawke’s Bay Museums Trust Ruawharo Tā-ū-rangi collection.
