Tuai ‘boil water’ notice remains in place

While a ‘boil water’ notice remains in place for the Tuai water supply, recent testing results are encouraging.

As a precautionary measure, the Tuai water supply has been under a ‘boil water’ notice since Cyclone Gabrielle in February.

The latest test results have come back clear of any coliforms, however, the ‘boil water’ notice will remain in place as a precaution until the results of the next round of tests in a month’s time.

Since Cyclone Gabrielle, regular monthly water monitoring test results tested positive for very low numbers of coliforms, in most cases less than one coliform unit per 100 mls of the sample of which coliforms are not notifiable. Testing is clear of any e-Coli coliforms which are notifiable under the new health act regulations.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna thanked the Tuai community for their patience while this issue was worked through. “While the most recent testing has shown the water supply is totally safe, as a precaution, the ‘boil water’ notice will remain in the short-term, and we will advise as soon as it is able to be lifted.”
