Cadetship opportunity to train and work locally

026

Wairoa District Council is continuing with its focus of growing the district’s local skill base.

Currently there are four active cadetships operating from Council, with a Land Transport Officer cadetship now being advertised.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said cadetships are a great way to grow our local workforce while supporting local people through specialised employment which grows Wairoa’s expertise, knowledge and qualifications.

“Similar to Council’s intern programme, the cadetship programme is particularly targeted at local talent, potential and growing our local workforce. “We have had a number of cadets come through Council who are now employed in fulltime positions at Council.

Mr Tipuna said the Land Transport Officer cadetship is an opportunity to develop a career in transport while living locally. “We are looking for an enthusiastic person who has a great attitude and wants to take up the fulltime paid training position of cadet. The role is ideal for a school leaver, or someone keen on a career in the Civil Construction industry.

“Providing a local employment opportunity and growing Wairoa’s skill base, all while keeping it local, is important to Council and the local community.”

“We are hoping we can attract the right applicant who will be keen, energetic, and ready to join our team. This latest cadetship involves a well-recognised career path with the cadetship encompassing a five-year training and development programme, highly desired qualification of New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) without a student loan requirement, and the opportunity to remain and study in Wairoa.

“The ideal applicant will have a general interest in civil engineering, be reliable and committed, have a get up and go attitude with problem solving skills, a willingness and commitment to learn new things, and the ability to work within a close team but can also work on their own.”

Applications close 13 November 2022. Please apply via Council's careers portal https://wairoadc.recruitmenthub.co.nz/Vacancies/
