Mangapoike Road closed at Matoitoi Bridge next week

road closure

The deck replacement on the Matoitoi Bridge on Mangapoike Road is finally expected to be completed next week.

The Mangapoike Road will be closed at the 18.6km mark, from 7am on Monday October 10 to 5pm Saturday October 15, while the Matoitoi Bridge project is completed.

The work is part of the Wairoa District Council ongoing bridge maintenance and strengthening programme and will involve removing the existing timber deck, preparing and painting the steel beams and the installation of the new timber deck and new guardrail.

Pedestrian access will be available during the week of road closure.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said the bridge deck was scheduled to be replaced around the end of March, but the forecasted weather events delayed the work and the continuing wet winter, means it has taken until now for the weather to look settled enough to allow the work to take place.

“We understand the road closure will be inconvenient for residents in this area and we thank you for your patience while this project is completed.”

Please contact the Wairoa District Council 06 838 7309 if further information is required.
