Local Body election just under a month away

Maori VOTE 2022 b+w M

The local body election is at an exciting stage with just over a month until the election closes.

In Wairoa, 15 candidates are standing for seven positions with campaigning occurring across the district.

Wairoa Electoral Officer Juanita Savage said this phase of the pre-election period is an opportunity for candidates to engage with voters to enable them to make informed decisions when selecting who they would like to represent them at the Council table.

This election will be held by postal vote. Voting papers will be delivered from Friday, 16 September to Wednesday 21st September.

Voting papers are returned via NZ Post to Independent Election Services Limited, which is based in Auckland and is contracted to process and count all voting papers.  Voting papers are not processed or counted in Wairoa.

It is recommended posting your voting papers no later than Tuesday 4 October to ensure they reach the electoral office before votes close on Saturday 8 October.

If you don’t make it to a NZ Post box, there is a secure ballot box located at the Council office, Coronation Square, Queen Street, Wairoa.

Mrs Savage said it is also great to see local people engaged in the election process. “I have received 13 queries covering multiple topics relating to candidates meeting the regulations they need to follow during this pre-election period. Additional queries have been around enrolment details and special voting.

Anyone with queries relating to the electoral process should contact Mrs Savage by phoning 06 838 7309.
