Bylaw consultation begins

Bylaw consultation1

The Wairoa District Council is beginning its consultation period on the Cemeteries and Waters Bylaws this week.

Bylaws are rules made by local councils which affect the way we live, work and play. Bylaws exist to make our district a safe and healthy place.

Under the Local Government Act 2002, bylaws must be reviewed at least every 10 years. Reviewing bylaws is an opportunity for members of the public to have input and ensures the bylaws are kept up to date and reflective of the community.

The consultation period for the Cemeteries and Waters Bylaws will run from Tuesday March 22 to Friday April 22 with public hearings and deliberations set down for Tuesday May 3 and Wednesday May 4.

The proposed changes are available on the Wairoa District Council website or by calling into the Council’s Queen Street offices.

No decisions on these bylaws have been made, and Council encourages people to have input.
