SH2 road closure this Saturday

road closure

Another full day road closure of State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Napier this Saturday is just unacceptable says Wairoa Mayor Craig Little.

“Waka Kotahi NZTA closed the road for a weekend in February which, with no detour available, significantly disrupted Wairoa people’s lives. Now, to have a second closure for the completion of maintenance that wasn’t completed over the first weekend is just crazy.

"The initial closure saw a minimal amount of work done and did not warrant a closure for two days. Surely, there are alternative solutions, or an ability to have more contractors on site to maximise the workload so a second closure is not necessary.

“Waka Kotahi NZTA seem to have no hesitation in isolating our community without worrying about the consequences.”

Mr Little said Waka Kotahi NZTA also needs to improve the way it consults and engages with our community as online messaging does not work for all of our communities.

This Saturday’s closure, March 5, will take place from 7am to 6pm with no detour available.
