Wairoa will be back in business tomorrow when the country, excluding Auckland, will move into Alert Level 2.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little praised local people for hunkering down during the Alert Level 4 and 3 lockdowns saying it has been great to see most people following the rules to help keep our community safe.

At Alert Level 2 business and services can open and schools will be back from Thursday.

However, there are safety restrictions such as mandatory and encouraged mask wearing and gatherings are limited to 50 people in an indoor space and 100 people in an outdoor space.

“I know everyone will be wanting to get back to a sense of normality. I would like to particularly encourage you all to shop locally. Many of our town’s businesspeople have carried on providing essential services and then services during Level 3. I am really impressed with all those business and service owners who went the extra mile to ensure our Wairoa community was looked after.

“As we head into Level 2, I encourage everyone to Tautoko Wairoa, support those businesses who have supported us by shopping and buying locally.

“Also please, be kind to our businesses. Wear your mask and scan in or register at the business you are visiting and be understanding that it will take a while for our businesses and services to implement these new requirements so please be kind and patient.

“Please stay safe. Wear a mask, follow social distancing requirements, remember it is mandatory to use the COVID tracer app to record your movements a
