Wairoa District Council Engineering Manager, Jamie Cox, has been acknowledged nationally with an award from the New Zealand Society of Local Government Managers (SOLGM).
Mr Cox said he was “delighted to win the ‘JLT Australia Overseas Manager Exchange’ award at last week’s SOLGM awards dinner in Wellington. The award is an exchange with an Australian Local Government Manager for two weeks where you have the opportunity to share and examine their practices, the exchange is then reciprocated”.
The exchange programme is one of a range of SOLGM initiatives that provide leadership and development opportunities specifically tailored to the local government environment. The Programme is designed to provide local government managers with an opportunity to focus on their management development and career in Local Government through an exchange with a partner manager in another country.
“My application presented the research work we have been doing and outcomes we are looking to achieve from the exchange and the award reflects the judges acknowledgement of the work we are doing on the improvement of national investment levels in rural Councils in order to improve the productivity of the NZ export sector”, Mr Cox says.
“It will provide an opportunity to view the investment strategies in local government in another country with a view to informing and improving rural NZ. I look forward to the opportunity to gather further intelligence to present Wairoa’s business case for improved national funding levels”
“A big thanks to Craig and Fergus for their support in this. The journey of revitalising Wairoa over the past 12- 18 months and into the future has been great to be a part of and I feel re-energised myself.”
