Council encourages community recognition

The Wairoa District Council is celebrating success by encouraging the community to nominate people for two very prestigious awards.

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Blake awards and the Tumeke Enterprise Youth Awards.

The annual Blake Awards recognise and celebrate people whose leadership has delivered high impact results and contributed to a more sustainable future for New Zealand.

Last year Rocket Lab founder Peter Beck was among the list of award winners.

This year there are three award categories, plus the prestigious Blake Medal.

Across all categories nominees must demonstrate outstanding leadership, create an impact and help contribute to a sustainable future for New Zealand, demonstrate an ability to clearly communicate a vision and inspire others, display some or all of the characteristics that Sir Peter Blake himself demonstrated, including: belief in achieving extraordinary things, the initiative to pursue an idea, a desire for constant improvement, trusting and empowering teammates, integrity, having fun and demonstrate a commitment to New Zealand.

Nominations close on Sunday, May 5 and the winners will be presented at the Blake Awards night on Thursday, September 5.

To Nominate someone head to Blakenz.org and fill out the nomination form.

Nominations are also open for the Tumeke Enterprise Youth Award.

Championed by Sir Stephen Tindall the awards recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievement of young people from regional New Zealand (outside of Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch).

There are Six awards on offer: Supreme Leadership, Leadership in Sports, Community Service, Cultural Leadership Award, Women in leadership and Leadership in the Arts.

Nominations opened on April 1 and close on May 1.

The Tumeke Enterprise Youth Awards Gala Dinner will be held in Tokoroa, on Friday, July 12.
