Eastland Group and the Wairoa District Council have announced the launch of the Eastland Group Wairoa Contestable Community Grant.
The grant will specifically target the establishment or development of community services or projects focused on the Wairoa River.
The total amount available is $15,000 each year, and will be offered to multiple organisations. Typically three grants of $5,000 each will be awarded, depending on the number of applications received.
Mayor Craig Little says that there are some amazing projects throughout the district that have a focus on the Wairoa River.
“We heard feedback from the Wairoa community about how this fund should be applied and it’s so awesome that Eastland Group have supported this approach.”
“It was important that the community’s opinions guided how the grant was structured,” adds Eastland Group chief executive Matt Todd. “The river is at the heart of Wairoa, and there are so many local groups who are involved with it in some way. We’re delighted to have been able to work with the mayor to ensure this grant has a positive impact.”
Projects should support the following principles as they relate to the Wairoa River: PROTECT, RESTORE, HEALTH, WELLBEING.
They should support education and community outreach initiatives that focus on the Wairoa River, as well as supporting young people to engage in activities that promote healthy relationships with the Wairoa River. And, they should promote the relevance and importance of the Wairoa River in the lives of the Wairoa community.
Applications are open now, and will close on May 25.
Application forms can be downloaded from the Wairoa District Council website and hard copies are available from the Wairoa District Council.
