Mahia’s Mokotahi Bay was a hive of activity recently, with 185 paddlers competing in Adventure Wairoa waka ama races.
The Mokotahi Hoe Tangaroa ā Kiokio 2026 drew a total of 33 teams with competitors from all over the country flocking to Mahia’s golden beaches.
Adventure Wairoa organisers said it was an amazing day with huge support, both on and off the water. They were so thrilled with the support and number of paddlers who attended the racing that they are hoping to make the hoe an annual event.
Organisers extended a thank you to Grace Ormond and her whānau, the support boat crews, Glen Vincent and Milky Hamblyn, the Mahia Boating and Fishing Club, WakaNZ and the Wairoa District Council, particularly Mayor Craig Little, Chief Executive Matt Lawson, Russell McCracken and Austin King.
