Wairoa’s new district council was sworn in at a ceremony in the War Memorial Hall on Tuesday night.

Elected members swore their oath of allegiance as a pledge of loyalty to the Wairoa community.

Supported by whānau and friends, the ceremony was led by Rātana Āpotoro Wairua Kitea Tipuna, with elected members welcomed by Chief Executive Matt Lawson.

In returning for his fifth term as Mayor, Craig Little thanked the community for having faith in him and the elected members and pledged to work hard to make Wairoa thrive.

Mayor Little confirmed the appointment of Benita Cairns as deputy mayor. The new Council’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for this morning (Wednesday, October 29).
