Nominations for the Wairoa District Council election have seen 20 candidates throw their hats into the ring.

Voting documents will be delivered to those who have enrolled from Tuesday, 9 September, until Monday, 22 September. The last day for submitting votes by mail is Tuesday, 7 October.

Now is the time for people to check their enrolment details to ensure they receive their voting papers at the correct address. If you are not enrolled, take action now by heading to the Electoral Commission New Zealand’s website to enrol or update your details online.

Wairoa has four Mayoral candidates: Denise Eaglesome-Karekare, Camden Gaskin, Craig Little and Kurawari Panere.

There are nine nominations for the three General Ward seats. They are: Sara Bird, Amber Forrest, Camden Gaskin, Jeremy Harker, Stuart Harris, Sam Jackman, John Malis, Roz Thomas and Veronica Grace Tukaki

There are also nine nominations for the three Māori Ward seats. They are: Benita Cairns, Puti Cook, Marino Harker-Smith, Katarina Kawana, Kurawari Panere, Michelle Tahuri, Ally Tipu, Trevor Teotaia Hirini and Esta Makere Wainohu.

Election day is Saturday, 11 October.
