New Council Chief Executive welcomed

welcome 12

The Wairoa community inspires new Council Chief Executive Matt Lawson, who hopes to contribute to Wairoa’s positive future by advocating at a regional and national level.

Mr Lawson was welcomed into his new position on Monday with a Mihi Whakatau held at the Wairoa War Memorial Hall.

He was accompanied by his wife Tracy, their five children, family members, and representatives from across the Hawke’s Bay, including Ngāti Pāhauwera – a whakapapa connection through his wife.

Among those in attendance were Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise, Deputy Mayor Annette Brosnan, Chief Executive Louise Miller and Central Hawke’s Bay Mayor Alex Walker.

Mr Lawson described Wairoa as having a sense of community, hope, resilience, and a never-say-die attitude, which is what makes the district so inspiring. “I want to work with the people of Wairoa to make sure our potential is reached, and the support from my family here today just makes me feel even stronger about making the best job I can of this role.”

Mayor Craig Little said welcoming Matt is a proud moment for the district, saying it is a privilege to have him on board.

He also acknowledged how special it was to have former Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna at the new Chief Executive's welcome – reflecting the onwards and upwards direction Wairoa is heading in.
