Wairoa’s water is safe to drink

water tap running

Wairoa’s town supply water is safe to drink, despite some reports of the water tasting ‘earthy’.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna wants to reassure people that Wairoa’s water quality is unchanged, and it is safe to drink. “Many different climatic and environmental conditions can influence water, and people may have noticed a change in the taste of town-supply water. However, it is aesthetic and is still safe to drink.

“Our water quality is constantly monitored to ensure it meets the required standards set by the national water regulator, Taumata Arowai. Te Whatu Ora has also confirmed it has no health concerns regarding Wairoa’s water quality.

“Producing safe drinking water is our priority, and we will continue to monitor and test the water.

“We welcome feedback from residents who notice any changes to their drinking water. Please be our eyes and ears and fill out a CSR (Customer Service request) or phone the Council on 06 838 7309.”

A reminder also, boil water notices remain in place at Tuai and Māhanga.

To lodge a CSR, please go online at www.wairoadc.govt.nz/contact-us/customer-service-request/, phone 06 838 7309 or call into the Council offices.
