When machinery stops, the job doesn’t — and that’s where local diesel mechanic Alex Little comes to the rescue.
Alex and his fiancé, Angel Hammond, are both born and bred in Wairoa and grew up on farms, so they know first-hand how frustrating and costly a machinery breakdown can be, particularly when you’re working remotely, and the nearest workshop isn’t just around the corner.
That’s why Alex has launched A and A Diesel and Mechanical Limited, taking his expertise, tools and customised mobile workshop truck directly to clients across the rural community.
“I know servicing and fixing machinery breakdowns can be tough when you are further from town and even further from regional hubs. My goal is to provide a mobile service that is affordable, accessible and meets clients’ needs. I literally bring my workshop to the client – a workshop on wheels that is ready to roll.”
And with more than a decade of experience under his belt, Alex certainly knows his way around machinery.
Growing up on a farm, he was always tinkering, pulling things apart and figuring out how they worked, so becoming a mechanic was a natural fit.
Alex began his heavy road transport mechanical apprenticeship with QRS and spent 10 years with the company, progressing to workshop supervisor.
“It was a great start. I got broad experience working on everything from graders, diggers and trucks to chainsaws and lawnmowers. QRS is really committed to training and upskilling and enabling staff to be the best they can.”
He then headed across the ditch to Western Australia, working in the road transport division of the mining industry, adding another valuable layer of experience to his mechanical toolkit.
But after gaining experience in some pretty big operations, Alex decided there really was no place like home — and the time was right to take his workshop to the job.
A and A Diesel and Mechanical is now hitting the road with a customised, fully kitted-out workshop truck, packed with tools to tackle most jobs on site. Alex has also re-established relationships with suppliers, meaning he can source quality parts quickly and affordably when they’re needed.
His specialty is machinery maintenance, servicing and repairs across farming, civil and roading. “Whether it’s routine maintenance, servicing, repairs or something unexpected, I’m here to keep your machinery running and your business moving. From farmers to contractors to forestry, if you need a job done, as long as I can get my truck to it, then give me a call.”
And because Alex understands that rural work doesn’t always stick to a nine-to-five schedule, he’s offering flexible hours to suit his customers.
“I know farming and rural work is not always 9 to 5,
and I’m happy to do after-hours work if I can – just call me.”
A and A Diesel and Mechanical is built on experience, practicality and a genuine understanding of the local rural community — and Alex is looking forward to getting out on the road and putting his skills to work.
He has a big thank you for everyone who has supported him in getting A and A Diesel and Mechanical off the ground, and he’s excited about what’s ahead.
