Keeping Wairoa’s Community Centre in tip-top shape means an upcoming closure of the main swimming pool.

Scheduled maintenance will close the main pool for up to six weeks, although staff and contractors will work to minimise the shutdown period if possible. The closure will take place from Saturday, October 17.

Centre manager Sara Bird said maintenance will include checking pool components and changing equipment and will also allow sections of the pool to be retiled.

“Regular maintenance closures are a necessary part of keeping the swimming pool up to the required standards. We know it is disruptive, and we really appreciate the positive feedback we have received from our pool users.

“We are working with our members and have an option for gym members to suspend their membership to the facility while the pool is closed, and pool memberships will be automatically suspended for the duration of the closure.

“The Learn to Swim pool will remain open, although there will be some restrictions during scheduled swimming lesson times.

“Thank you to everyone for your support. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this important maintenance work is completed.

“We will be working to get the main pool back up and running as soon as we can and will advise as soon as a reopening date has been confirmed.”
