No Local State of Emergency for Wairoa

PIM Imagery 9

Wairoa District Council has confirmed that a local State of Emergency for the Wairoa District will not be declared at this stage, as current conditions and forecasts do not meet the required criteria to do so.

Mayor Craig Little and Controller Juanita Savage say the situation will be carefully monitored and assessed as conditions continue to develop.

"Based on the information currently available, the situation in Wairoa District does not meet the threshold for the declaration of a Local State of Emergency," Mrs Savage says.

"The situation continues to be monitored in real time, and any new information will be assessed promptly as it is received."

Mayor Little says Council understands the community may be feeling cautious and reassures residents that Civil Defence teams and Council are staying across the situation.

"We are monitoring things closely and staying ready to respond if needed," Mayor Little says.

"If there are any changes, we will let the community know straight away."

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to stay informed and continue taking simple steps to be prepared, particularly with strong winds still expected tomorrow (Sunday).

"We are in a steady place right now, but it is important to stay aware and look out for each other," Mayor Little says.

Council will continue to provide updates as needed.
