Work to repair three slips under the road on State Highway 38 is progressing well, with crews soon to switch from overnight to daytime work.
Crews have been working since December between Lake Waikaremoana Holiday Park and Tuai, to continue Cyclone Gabrielle repairs.
Overnight work (with road closures) is scheduled to finished Saturday 28 February and then from Monday 2 March to Friday 5 June, crews will swap over to the dayshift to keep working.
During the work, this stretch of road will be closed Monday to Saturday (6 days each week) between 8am and 12pm and 1pm til 5pm.
The road will open from 12pm until 1pm to allow traffic to pass through. Drivers need to allow enough time to reach one of the closure points before 1pm. Closure points are at Lake Waikaremoana Holiday Park, and at Kokako Road (where the road turns back to gravel) above Tuai.
During the day closures, access to Rosie Bay Campsite and the Great Walk entrance at Onepoto Bay will not be available from 8am til 12pm and again from 1pm til 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Access will be available outside of these times and all day on Sundays.
There are no viable detours, so please plan ahead. The road will remain open for Easter weekend and King’s Birthday.
