Wairoa District Council exists so that residents and visitors have a safe living environment and are able to participate in the community at a cost, which is affordable!
The purpose of the Council is to enable democratic local decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of the Wairoa District in the present and for the future.
Wairoa is a beautiful town, positioned alongside the famous Wairoa River. The small town of Wairoa boasts a lifestyle absorbed in activity and a society rich in culture and heritage. Wairoa attracts visitors from far and wide.

MEDIA RELEASE - RESTRICTED FIRE SEASON FOR ENTIRE DISTRICT |

The Wairoa District Council has introduced a restricted fire season for the entire Wairoa Rural Fire District.
Permits are required for any open air fire, including incinerators, hangi or beach fires, in all rural areas. There is no cost attached to getting a permit, although people should allow three working days for processing.

PUBLIC NOTICE OF RIGHT TO DEMAND A POLL ON MAORI WARDS |

Notice is given under Section 19ZA of the Local Electoral Act 2001 (LEA) that electors of the Wairoa District have a right to demand under Section 19ZB of the LEA a poll on the question of whether:
- the district should be divided into 1 or more Maori wards
On 8 November 2011 the Council resolved:
"That under Section 19Z of the Local Electoral Act 2001 Council does not divide the district into 1 or more Maori wards for electoral purposes and that Council holds a poll under Section 19ZD of the Local Electoral Act 2001 on the question of whether or not to divide the district into 1 or more Maori wards for electoral purposes as part of the 2013 local government elections to be held on 12 October 2013."

Wairoa Centennial Library brings you EPIC Online Reference Databases.
Electronic Purchasing In Collaboration (EPIC) - is a shared initiative of New Zealand libraries. New Zealand libraries have banded together to buy access to a collection of EPIC e-resources, for all New Zealanders to use.
To use these databases you need to be a member of the Wairoa Centennial Library.
