The purpose of the Council is to enable democratic local decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of the Wairoa District in the present and for the future.
Wairoa is a beautiful town, positioned alongside the famous Wairoa River. The small town of Wairoa boasts a lifestyle absorbed in activity and a society rich in culture and heritage. Wairoa attracts visitors from far and wide.

TrustPower Community Awards |

The once-a-year opportunity to celebrate volunteers has hit town, with nominations open for the TrustPower Wairoa Community Awards.
The Awards, run in conjunction with the Wairoa District Council, are open to all voluntary groups working for the benefit of the Wairoa region. There are a huge number of voluntary organisations who contribute their time and effort to strengthen this community. This is your chance to turn the spotlight onto those who usually work behind the scenes. Anyone can nominate a voluntary group - groups can even nominate themselves.
The awards cover five categories: Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development.
This year more than $5,000 prize money is up for grabs. Nomination Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from Council offices, can be downloaded online or simply text the word ‘Trust’ to 244.

PRESS REALEASE - GATEWAY TO MAHIA OPTIONS NARROWED DOWN |

Work towards developing a new route into Mahia moved ahead at yesterday’s Wairoa District Council long term community plan deliberations by narrowing down the options to only two.
After taking into account the results of lengthy community consultation, a cultural audit and an archaeological survey, it was decided to go ahead with the investigation of two new roading options – one along the foreshore at Opoutama and one heading along YMCA road and through plantation.

PRESS RELEASE - COUNCIL TO PROCEED WITH MAHIA WASTEWATER SCHEME |

A community wastewater scheme for Mahia remains on the drawing board following a decision made at yesterday’s Wairoa District Council long term community plan deliberations.
Extensive debate took place in Council chambers as to whether or not to proceed with the scheme, with the final decision to proceed based on financial, environmental and social factors that reflect the best long term outcome for the community.

Wairoa Centennial Library brings you EPIC Online Reference Databases.
Electronic Purchasing In Collaboration (EPIC) - is a shared initiative of New Zealand libraries. New Zealand libraries have banded together to buy access to a collection of EPIC e-resources, for all New Zealanders to use.
To use these databases you need to be a member of the Wairoa Centennial Library.
