Locals urged to share their thoughts with Council

Local people are encouraged to present at the Wairoa District Council’s Forum meetings.

The Council forums are designed to enable members of the public to bring matters to the attention of the local authority and elected members.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the forums are an integral part of Council’s engagement.

“Council has just come off the back of eight months intensive community consultation as part of the rates review and Long-Term Plan. I’m figuring people probably need to catch their breath, but I also don’t want to lose momentum.

“Council forums are held every six weeks and we genuinely want to hear what people have to say. We want to continue to engage and listen to our community and encourage people to share their thoughts at the public forums.”

An assessment made one week prior to the date of forum as to whether the meeting will proceed. This assessment is based on whether members of the public have requested to speak at forum.

The July forum was cancelled as there were no requests to present from members of the public. Elected members still meet and will workshop topics but Mr Little said it is a shame to miss an opportunity to hear from members of the public.

The next scheduled Council Forum is Tuesday August 24, 2021, with people encouraged to register their interest in making a presentation as early as possible.

If you would like to present to Council, please make a request by emailing governance@wairoadc.govt.nz or call into the Council offices and ask for a Council Forum application form.

Mr Little also reminded members of the public he is happy to meet face to face on a Wednesday, to make an appointment call into the Council offices or phone 838 7309.
