The Wairoa Community Centre pools are back in action.

The pools were closed to the public after the pool water pump stopped operating.

Investigations revealed the motor had burnt out and repair work would not be justifiable.

The installation of the new purpose-built pump began last Wednesday (February 5) and was operational by Friday.

The pool was re-opened to the public on Monday (Feb 10) afternoon with the water quality at the required standard and clarity expected to improve over the next few days.

The shutdown also created an opportunity for community centre staff to carry out maintenance and cleaning of the pool area.

Wairoa District Council acting chief executive officer Kitea Tipuna praised the quick work of the Council staff in getting the system back up and running so quickly and thanked the pool users for their patience.
