As we are all moving to complete lockdown, you will all be getting an understanding what it is like to still love your loved ones cooped up together!
Believe me it can be done, it does help having a very patient partner - Lucky Jan!
We have 2 children at University in Christchurch and Lincoln, our daughter has returned back to Wairoa, but has to live away from us for 8 days, whilst we complete our Isolation and our son has decided to stay on in ChCh and live the month out with his 2 flatmates.
I got a couple of hours out on the farm spraying Blackberries today, between conference/video calls, great having mobile coverage.
Today we held one of the quickest Council meetings ever, I video zoomed in and Deputy Mayor Flood chaired the meeting, because of the Governments announcement, all non-essential items were removed and no public were allowed to attend, the meeting was over in half an hour, not ideal, but necessary.
We are living in a very scary time and the best thing we can do is unite as a community. We are all in the same boat and everyone is working together to ensure we keep our communities as safe as possible. I know people will have lots of questions and be wondering what life will look like in the coming weeks as our country literally shuts down for a month.
Like the rest of the country we had been monitoring the Government’s response to COVID-19 and while escalating to Alert level 4 is imminent, I think most of us were surprised, but relieved, when our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, announced on Monday we would move to Alert Level 4 on Wednesday, unfortunately there is no other way.
Council’s chief executive Steven May is in charge of the operational response and has considerable experience in responding and controlling this type of situation including previous involvement though his Civil Defence and Police roles, as do our very capable of Regional and Local Civil Defence Officers.
Like I have said before, I urge all of you to click on this Government website, it pretty well tells you everything you need to know. http://covid19.govt.nz/
