Well what a day it was, hence the lateness of my blog.
I think whilst we were expecting an imminent announcement, we probably weren't all prepared to the extent of the message.
New Zealand definitely is in safe hands, our Prime Minister has been exemplary in her role, I am also pleased to see the Opposition backing our Prime Minister, this is not a time for Electioneering/Campaigning.
This announcement had to happen to stop the spread of this horrendous Virus, as our Prime Minister said, Italy once had 102 cases, their death toll is now in the high hundreds daily. We can stop this spread, we are all a major part in this happening and we must abide by the Governments instructions.
The big thing for all of us is, what does this mean, what can we do, what is an essential business, for those who now find themselves out of work what does the future look like for you, how will you pay for your rent/mortgage and feeding yourselves and your families. I know the Government will have the answers in the coming days and I along with your Elected Members will be seeking answers as well.
All I ask is for you all to remain calm, I know that is easier said than done, but everybody is important to this Government and we will work together to ensure no one is forgotten.
We must focus on people who are most at risk of falling through the gaps – people who are unwell, the elderly and those who are self-isolating.
The Hawkes Bay Leaders, Civil Defence and Government Departments are all working together to ensure everything is being done to somehow break the cycle of this virus, whilst ensuring everyone’s livelihoods’.
As we are being told Make a difference by checking-in on others, especially the elderly and vulnerable. Look after anyone that needs help.
Can I urge all of you to click on this Government website, it pretty well tells you everything you need to know. http://covid19.govt.nz/
