Kia Ora all – as you will have all read, Jan and I will be in self-isolation following the Government’s guidance for travellers returning home to NZ from overseas.
Jan and I were in Australia and returned last night and we have both gone into self-isolation for the next 14 days. Just to be clear, we are all good, healthy and well. This is just a precautionary measure as per the Government’s guidance for all New Zealanders returning from overseas (Pacific Islands currently exempt).
I just wanted to say that I’ll be updating my Facebook and sharing our experience of being in self-isolation, something many kiwis are going through at the moment, and also to signal to everyone that we are all good and I’m still working from home.
This is a time for us to come together as a community, to check in on those of our community who are the most vulnerable and isolated, particularly our kaumatua and kuia. This is not a time for behaviour like panic buying, but a time for us to unite as a community and look after each other. We are resilient and we are a tight knit community and I know that we will come together to support each other at this time.
Can I encourage people to look at the official messages from the Ministry of Health about keeping yourself and others safe.
I will be carrying on my Mayoral duties from home and if I need to attend any meetings, the Deputy Mayor Hine Flood will attend on my behalf.
Please look after others, especially the elderly and those who don’t have a network of friends around them - many thanks for the kind offers of help ie picking up supplies for us.
