Christmas Parade back

christmas parade

Those sleigh bells will be jingling on December 10 when Wairoa holds its much anticipated Christmas Parade.

With COVID slowing festivities over recent years, organisers are thrilled the main street festivities are able to once again be held.

This year’s theme is ‘nursery rhymes’ which offers a broad range of traditional songs and poems for participants to get creative with.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said there has been a great response to the announcement that the parade is able to be held again.

“After a couple of years of COVID-19 related restrictions, people really want to get behind this year’s parade and we welcome everyone to take part.”

The festival will include the traditional chain of floats meandering along the main street, with a selection of prizes up for grabs.

Main street businesses will offer boulevard day style bargains and it is hoped people who turn out to watch the parade will also tautoko Wairoa and support local businesses.

A sausage sizzle will also be held with a koha donation where Council will match what is raised and the money will be donated to the Wairoa Fire Brigade. Festivities will also include entertainment and music.

More details will be released, but for now, start planning your float and mark Saturday December 10 on your calendar.
