Wairoa Library readers can now access a whole new range of books through an alternative ebook platform. The library has linked into an extensive collection of eBooks and eAudio through its association with OverDrive – a service that lets readers borrow digital content anytime, anywhere.

Wairoa District Council chief executive officer Kitea Tipuna said it is fantastic to be able to offer Wairoa people even more digital resources. “The cost of this new improved technology range will be absorbed by the library so we can offer the service free of charge to our library patrons. Providing this service is in line with Council’s commitment to improve the connectivity of our Wairoa community.

“It’s been a big year for the library with the opening of the digital hub plus a massive technology leap joining other New Zealand libraries as part of the Kōtui shared library management system.

“Now, bringing OverDrive into the mix enables the library to offer a wealth of reading and learning resources to users of all ages.”

To get the most out of your OverDrive service, we recommend that you install OverDrive app – you can find information and links to your device’s app store at https://help.overdrive.com/en-us/1308.html. You can browse and borrow from this extensive collection by visiting https://epukapuka.overdrive.com/. OverDrive access can be set up with your existing library card number and pass code with all the library’s physical and digital collections now able to be accessed with a single pass code.

Mr Tipuna said staff are also looking forward to the upcoming launch of Wairoa Library app, which is now at the final testing stage. The app will provide a one-stop portal to managing all your loans, holds, renewals, including eBook and eAudiobook platforms, and much more.

“This new range of ebooks is a great resource option for our community to be able to access. This type of development, like the Kōtui system, brings Wairoa up to the same level as the rest of the country and extensively broadens the range of books and resources available to local people.

“These initiatives bring the Wairoa library into the 21st Century by being part of a family of libraries and expanding the Wairoa library’s collection.”

The library has reopened to the public under Alert Level 2. A reminder please wear your facemask, and due to the two-metre social distancing requirement there is a limit of 25 people in the library at a time while under Alert level 2. Library staff will also be rolling out Delta Level 2 requirements to keep everybody safe. Mr Tipuna said staff are looking forward to seeing library users again and encourages everyone to follow the guidelines that will be put in place to ensure everyone’s safety.
