Shopping at the Wairoa Star was a great move by Czhaay Hau who is the most recent winner of the Campaign Rua Tautoko Wairoa buy local campaign.

The weeklong draw, from September 11-18, saw a total of 490 entries amounting to a total spend of $42,304.89.

The average spend was $86.34 and the highest spend was $1,666.

The winning name was drawn by Wairoa Police Constable Noui Whaanga.

Campaign Rua- the second stage of the Wairoa Tautoko Buy Local campaign, encourages people to support local businesses by spending locally and entering the weekly prize draw.

The promotion was launched by the Wairoa District Council in June and incentivised more than $100,000 worth of local shopping and saw 10 shoppers each win $100.

Council chief executive Steven May challenged local businesses to continue the campaign with the Wairoa Star grabbing the opportunity and donating $500 in prize money.

This was followed by a $200 pledge by Bradbury Jewellers.

To enter just spend $30 or more at a participating store and write your name and phone number on the back of your receipt and drop it in the entry box.

Each week one lucky shopper will have a chance to win a $100 credit to spend at a participating store.

Everyone is eligible to enter, look out for the blue posters at participating businesses and get shopping Wairoa.
